Finding the right product that works for you can be a bit tricky sometimes, but have you ever tried a product with tons of great reviews and recommendations only to find that it's just not working for you?
The reason may lie in how you're applying the product.
If you're reading this, maybe you've experienced using a hydrating or moisturizing product, whether it be a toner, serum, or lotion, and feeling that it doesn't quite leave your skin feeling hydrated at all. This could actually be due to your skin being too dehydrated or a damaged skin barrier, leading to the product being absorbed too quickly. So.. how can we fix this?
The answer is quite simple: apply more product!
This technique best works with serums, as they are concentrated formulas with active ingredients that target skin concerns most effectively (read more about serums here).
- After applying your toner, apply a small amount of your hydrating serum to each cheek and your forehead. You should use enough product to apply a thin layer that absorbs fully. Gently roll in the serum, making sure to cover all parts of the face.
- Apply another layer in the same way.
- Repeat until your skin feels slightly sticky, using the back of your fingers to test. Your skin should be sticky but moist, not sticky like it's drying out!
- Once your skin feels slightly sticky and the product does not absorb immediately, apply the next step of your skincare routine.
This technique is great for both day and night routines, but is crucial when applying skincare before makeup. By ensuring your skin is properly hydrated, you can avoid issues such as cracked or cakey makeup. Don't forget to get the crevices next to your nose, and avoid applying too much product on the eyelids; the skin on the eyelids is much thinner and overapplying products can cause eye makeup to apply poorly.
